Apokalypse - How it happened

Introductions

"Dr Treloren, be sure she is sealed in tightly."

"Of course, Dr Salan." Treloren double-checked all of the seals on the large glass container. "Don't worry, my dear, you will get your sight." He spoke, of course, to the girl floating in the container. She turned 21 years old today and this very expensive experimental surgery had be her birthday present from her family. She had been born blind. This surgery was designed to replace the inoperative optical nerves that connected her eyes to the sensory receptors in her brain. "She's sealed in." He said.

"Good, the we can begin." He nodded at the girl's family, a woman and three  young  children, who were watching from the surgical bay window, then returned his focus to the screen before him. He tapped the touch-screen a few times, and the glass container began to fill with a red gas-like liquid.

"The pathogen has been released, and is entering her brain." Salan informed Treloren. He pulled up a schematic of the before-mentioned organ that was being supplied via the sensory nodes placed on her temples. She had wires everywhere that monitored her bodily functions and vital signs. A few moments passed.

"Are her brain waves supposed to fluctuate?" Treloren asked.

"They are within acceptable parameters." Salan replied. "The Optic Nerves are being activated." The computer beeped. "Success! Now we can-" He gasped and began tapping the screen frantically.

"What's wrong?" Treloren demanded.

"The pathogen- it's erasing her memory centers and her brain waves are fluctuating off the charts!" He tapped the screen at lightning speed.

Treloren looked up at the girl. She was convulsing and contorting, straining at the wires that connected her to the computer. "stop the procedure!"

"I can't! It won't abort!" Salan looked at his partner. "There's nothing more we can do..." They both looked at the girl who's seizures were getting more and more violent.

Her hair turned from it's deep black to brown to red, and then it just burst into flames, but it did not burn her. Fire shot from her finger-tips and eyes. She opened her mouth in a silent scream and flames shot out of her mouth in a terrifying dragon-like roar. The water in the container began to boil, and the glass container shattered. The doctors ducked behind a table.

The now-red liquid poured out, and the girl landed on the ground in a crouch-like position. She rose slowly, looking around her. She reached her full height, and realized there were still wires connected to her. She ripped them off.

Treloren peeked over the table. "You shouldn't do that..." She swung her head around to face him, her flam filled eyes boring into him. She blinked, and the table he was hiding behind burst into flames. She laughed mirthlessly.

She blew the doors off their hinges with a fire blast and sauntered into the corridor.

"Juliana?" came a scared female voice. She turned to see a woman in her mid-40s with three children looking at her from behind the woman's skirts. All four wore the same terrified expression. "Juliana?" The woman repeated.

She extended her hand toward the woman, fingers splayed out, palm down. The she clenched her hand into a fist. The woman went rigid. The she made a dropping motion and the woman collapsed on the floor, unconscious.

She burned her way out of the building and was followed by a quickly dissipating smoke cloud.

Treloren managed to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher that was hanging on the wall, the he turned to Salan who was staring at the screen, eyes wide and slack-jawed. "What just happened?"
